We introduce the concept of the context of transmission. It covers
the ways in which mathematical knowledge and mathematical abilities are
transmitted in education and popularization of mathematics. We stress the
role of intuitive explanations in these processes. Several examples of such
explanations are presented, related to: linguistic explanations, perception,
empirical models, and internal explanations inside mathematics itself.

The paper presents the comments relating to the role of tasks in the
process of teaching and learning of mathematics in the context of education
of students studying to become teachers. In the considerations part, reference
was made to the fragments of undergraduate and postgraduate works, made
at seminars of didactics of mathematics.

Mathematical texts are characterised by the occurrence of specific
symbols. They may be letters (as applied, for example, by Euclid), number
symbols or graphic signs with context-independent meaning. Mathematical
symbols store knowledge of previous generations that provides frameworks
with which to examine history of mathematical problems. In this paper, we
deal with symbols related to the concept of function and related concepts like
limit, and some other set theoretical or logical concepts. We focus on symbols
that have survived unchanged into the present day and are commonly
used. In part, we rely on the well-known book by Florian Cajori, “History
of Mathematical Notations”, first published in 1928-1929. Since mathematical
notation is still growing, we also present symbols emerged after [Cajori
1928-1929].

The purpose of this paper is to show how the process of proving
a theorem in different ways or proving generalized versions of the theorem,
after learning one its proofs, influences the development of the skills of proving
theorems and analysing proofs by the students of mathematics. To
illustrate this process we use an elementary theorem about numbers and its
generalizations, giving fourteen proofs. Proving theorems we use methods
and facts which are available to high school students.
