Image and text as co-existing and interdependent sources of information are linked from the&#13;
Middle Ages. Today, infographics appear as another tool to combine text and images. The&#13;
paper presents students’ works prepared in frames of the classes “Visualization of natural&#13;
processes and phenomena” realized as a part of the project “Animation of nature culture&#13;
(Animacja Kultury Przyrodniczej)”.

<summary type="text">New course on curricula of natural sciences – popularization of scientific knowledge as a tool to link science and public – good practice in higher education

The popularization of science is one of the most important skills that should be formed&#13;
in higher education in natural sciences. In Poland only humanistic studies in the field of&#13;
journalism provide preparation in transforming knowledge and presenting it to laic audience.&#13;
Curricula of biological or environmental protection studies offer no course related to science&#13;
popularization. This gap is partly covered by educational offer of pedagogical universities;&#13;
however, they prepare future teachers to work in formal education with recipients within&#13;
a certain age range. But there is still a gap in educational offer of higher education in natural&#13;
sciences. Graduates often have biological knowledge but do not have the key skills needed&#13;
in the labor market – concerning self-presentation, mediation and attractive presentation&#13;
of scientific knowledge. Here is an example of two courses carried out as the part of the&#13;
scientific project “Animation of scientific and science culture”. The project was performed in&#13;
academic year 2014–2015 at the Pedagogical University of Cracow. The course was dedicated&#13;
to popularization of scientific knowledge. The article discusses the substantive scope of the&#13;
course and methods used to work with students.

The article shows how the role of the scientist as a popularizer of science changed over the&#13;
centuries. On this basis the role of the classes with students on educating their competences&#13;
of animator of natural culture is shown. The classess “scientific theatre” and “ICT and new&#13;
forms of social communication” were realised as a part of the project “Animation of nature&#13;
culture (Animacja kultury przyrodniczej)”.

<summary type="text">Nasze „żaby zielone”

„Żaby zielone” są kolejną dużą grupą żab występujących w Polsce. Są najpospolitszymi płazami,&#13;
występującymi przez cały okres życia aktywnego w wielu zbiornikach wodnych. Należą do&#13;
najczęściej obserwowanych i słyszanych płazów, ponieważ są bardzo aktywne w słoneczne&#13;
dni wiosny i lata. Ubarwieniem i biologią bardzo się różnią od „żab brunatnych”. Ciekawostką&#13;
dotyczącą ich biologii i systematyki jest to, że jedna z nich – żaba wodna – stanowi naturalną&#13;
hybrydę dwóch pozostałych gatunków – żaby śmieszki i żaby jeziorkowej. Z tego powodu&#13;
oznaczanie tych żab nastręcza wielu trudności.&#13;
W artykule przedstawiono podstawowe różnice między obiema grupami żab, podano opis&#13;
i typowe cechy charakterystyczne poszczególnych gatunków „żab zielonych”, a także opisano&#13;
ich biologię.; “Green frogs” are yet another group of frogs present in Poland. They are the most common&#13;
amphibians that can be found throughout their entire active life in many bodies of water. They&#13;
are known to be the most commonly observed and heard amphibians due to their heightened&#13;
activeness in the sunny days of spring and summer. They differ immensely in color and&#13;
biology from the “brown frogs”. An interesting feature of their biology and systematics is that&#13;
one of them – the water frog, is a natural hybrid of two remaining species – the marsh frog and&#13;
the pool frog. Because of this, marking these frogs causes great difficulties.&#13;
This article displays basic differences between these two groups of frogs. A description and&#13;
typical distinguishing features of the “green frog” species have been given, along with their&#13;
biology.
