Szmuc, Elżbieta
The paper contains the description of the notion field of “journey” in deaf children. It is based on the studies of
the language of deaf children and on the theoretical bases of the theory of notion fields, and the method of
interest centres described in Poland by Władysław Miodunka. The paper supports the thesis that in teaching verbal
language to the deaf, that method is interesting and may bring good results because it aims at mastering the
situation vocabulary. The research has demonstrated the social and individual circumstances of the contents of the
notion field of “journey”, its boundaries, the problem of central and peripheral words. Particularly important for
the practitioners, language teachers, are the remarks about the practical application of interest centres and the
studies of notion fields. Boundaries of this paper reach the problems related to the theory of language field –
especially, the description of the limits of the language field “journey”, independence of the word, mental reality
of the field, and not the lexical-semantic structure of the vocabulary.

Pożegnalna defilada (The Farewell Parade) contains feature articles published earlier in “Przegląd Kulturalny”,
“Kultura”, “Przegląd Katolicki”, Sportowiec”, and “As”. The forty six short texts form a gallery of figures of
outstanding sportsmen (regardless of their national affiliation, place of residence, or skin colour), and people
who found their place on the outskirts of sport, or were loosely connected with it. The book is composed of columns
written over almost three decades, and each is accompanied by a modern commentary, which is usually
a supplement, evoking new circumstances, deepening those stated before with social, cultural, and at times also
political contexts. Tomaszewski does not recall in detail the events from sports arenas, but calling upon the
readers’ knowledge of them tries to build a sociological, psychological, or philosophical reflection.
