Masłowska, Monika
The article involves functioning of students in integrative schools with three areas principally&#13;
taken into consideration: the attitude to school and to learning, the relation with teachers,&#13;
as well as the relation with peers. There are many forms of disabled students’ education in&#13;
Poland, but the integrative one still arises controversy. The first part includes theoretical&#13;
consideration about integrative education, the second part includes the research score analysis.&#13;
The research was conducted in one of Cracow’s integrative schools. The information&#13;
on students has been gathered based on observation, conversation with the teacher and&#13;
conversation with the students, which was conducted with the help of a work entitled “The&#13;
school seen by a student” by Slawomir Olszewski (2005). The final part of the work includes&#13;
discussion scores, the summary and conclusion of the conducted studies.

The appearance of a disabled child in a family makes the situation within the family change&#13;
dramatically, both internally and externally. Problems and limitations accumulate in layers&#13;
being caused by the necessity of supplying for special needs connected with special care,&#13;
rehabilitation and needs of the disabled child. Such a situation releases negative emotions&#13;
and triggers unfavorable defense mechanisms building up emotional strain. All these family&#13;
problems can be solved or even eradicated only when the family gets comprehensive&#13;
help. Such help can be specialist, therapeutic, educational, informative or non-institutional in&#13;
form. Only a properly functioning network of social support enables those parents to fulfill&#13;
their parental duties.

Basing on the experiences and worked out standards of community care work in Western&#13;
countries like Italy, Finland or Germany, Poland has developed the Model of Community&#13;
Mental Health Centre. Research in the above-mentioned partner countries demonstrates&#13;
that the idea of organizing psychiatric treatment within a community brings considerable&#13;
therapeutic effects and reduces the cost of treatment. The essence of the work focused on&#13;
the needs of patients is to protect them form institutionalization, to put emphasis on their&#13;
independence and activity and to deter them from falling into traps of disability pension or&#13;
benefit scheme or into complete professional inactivity.

Educational failures not only point to gaps in the mastery of knowledge and skills, they can&#13;
also be a source of further difficulties experienced by a child. A disturbing consequence of&#13;
permanent failures is lack of faith in the possibility of changing the course of events, low&#13;
self-esteem, loss of a sense of effectiveness and a sense of action. If the child does not find&#13;
adequate support in the family environment, and the school does not offer solutions to eliminate&#13;
the difficulties, the situation may turn out to be extremely complicated. The program&#13;
known as the Academy of the Future comes with the help for children experiencing such&#13;
difficulties. The text presents the assumptions of the program and its organizational and&#13;
methodical solutions.
