O narastaniu numinosum w powieściach Doroty Terakowskiej Wolanin, Anita Works by Terakowska depict a hero confronting the world, in the course of a journey which is so characteristic for the anxieties of adolescence and whose main purpose is to face the unknown. Rudolf Otto claims that numinosum is certainly something that is unknown, impossible to define, yet it may be investigated. The way to explore the Unknown will involve examining the structural elements of the numinous experience, i.e. mysterium tremendum et fascinans, mirum, maiestaticum and augustum; in novels which will become the field of research. It is a rule that a young traveller discovering the principles governing the world and acquiring life experience will always have an insight into the numinous feeling. Human endeavours for many years have included attempts to understand the mystery of the Unknown and, by this means, to explain the sources of existential fears pervading each human being. Obraz morza w polskiej liryce dziecięcej Ungeheuer-Gołąb, Alicja The author of the article refers to the opinions of researchers of literature for young readers as well as joins the description and interpretation of marine themes in children poetry, mainly in lyric poetry. The works discussed in this article were selected from poetry collections of Polish writers published during the last decades. The leading motif determining the choice was the motif of the sea and the like including, among others, the motif of water, seashell and sea journey. The description is not chronological, thus poems by Tadeusz Kubiak from 1959 are accompanied by works of contemporary authors such as Joanna Kulmowa, Joanna Papuzińska, Danuta Wawiłow and Zofia Beszczyńska. The material presented comprises mainly children lyric poetry in which references to marine themes were found. An attempt was made to show that marine and aquatic motifs fulfill numerous functions in children poetry and manifest themselves in a way characteristic for this type of writing. Dorosłe lęki, dziecięce schronienia Podniesińska, Zofia The aim of the article is to outline some aspects of Tove Jansson’s writing in general, including the Moomin books and adult fiction (Sculptor’s Daughter, Fair Play, The Summer Book). The focus is on the relation between adulthood and childhood connected with danger – the opposite of safety. Child’s figure creates a link between autobiographical short stories, in which he or she is both the narrator and protagonist; and children books, in which a child is the point of reference and the reader. Niesamowity świat awiacji w międzywojennej nowelistyce Janusza Meissnera Knap, Jakub The article is an attempt to analyse interwar fantastic short-stories written by Janusz Meissner. It focuses on the pioneering variety of fantastic fiction represented by Meissner’s works, which could be regarded as “aviation ghost stories”; showing the socio-cultural context of the works (fascinations and fears associated with the technological revolution from the beginning of the 20th century), traces of the influence of literary traditions (Demon ruchu [The Motion Demon] by Stefan Grabiński, marine literature) and quasi-literary inspirations (legends and folklore of first aircraft pilots, but also analogical phenomena such as marine folklore, oral tradition of yarns, railroad folklore) as well as characteristic features of Meissner’s short stories, which allow classifying them as literature for young people.
