Mehrsprachigkeit in der Literatur Galiziens Woldan, Alois From the historical perspective, multilingualism is a characteristic feature of Galician literature. It indicates the multiculturalism of the region, in which writers of many ethnic backgrounds came into contact. This leads to the question: given the multilingualism of the literary works in the region, how should the texts written in Polish but by Ukrainian writers be classified? Perhaps it would be useful to create a category of ‘Galician literature’? The article, focusing on the above, also tackles the differences between intertextuality (speaking and writing in many languages) and intratextuality (one common code with a mixture of elements from many different languages). The latter has been observed by the author as early as in the 17th and 18th century, when the old Ukrainian language was enriched with Polish and Latin words. In the 19th century, on the other hand, bilingualism was a characteristic feature, with German-Polish and German-Ukranian works. These influences are most prominent in translated place names, their morphological adaptations, parallel existence of multilingual names as well as etymology and lexical changes. Garść uwag o wybranych opiniach na temat szkolnictwa niepublicznego w Polsce Waligóra, Jerzy The article presents a commentary on selected views regarding the Polish private education sector (excluding higher-education establishments), which currently comprises 9–10% of all schools in Poland. Amongst views expressed in pedagogic works, a positive outlook on private education prevails. It is emphasised that private schools: offer a wide range of classes, provide more than the statutory number of hours of obligatory subjects, have flexible curricula and methodologies,use teaching methods which promote student participation e.g. student projects, foster partnership between teachers and students. The shortcomings of private schools often quoted by educators include inadequate premises, frequently without or with too few laboratories, workshops, sports facilities or libraries. In the media, private schools are presented much less favourably and often unjustly criticised e.g. for promoting snobbish vogues for private education, accepting only rich students, selling good grades etc. Irrespective of all these negative views, legitimate as well as superficial and unjust, private schools constitute nowadays an important sector of Polish education.
