Polish Mothers on the Move: Transnationality and Discourses of Gender, Care, and Co-residentiality Requirement in the Narratives of Polish Women Raising Children in the West Pustułka, Paulina The article examines the phenomenon of migrant motherhood as it is embedded in the broader discourses of gender (personal and political), and the specificities of care provision debates. Transnationalism theory has been utilized to frame the research-driven questions of Polish experiences of parenting abroad, while data obtained through qualitative narrative interviews with women living with their children in the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom constitute the empirical material. The focus has been placed on the requirement of parent-child co-residentiality as it is linked to the idea of contemporary Western motherhood and the role/concept of a ‘good mother’.; Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony jest fenomenowi macierzyństwa migrantek, w szerszym kontekście dyskursu płci kulturowej (indywidualnej i politycznej) oraz debatom na temat zakresu opieki rodzicielskiej. Przy opracowaniu ogólnych ram pytań badawczych dotyczących polskich doświadczeń rodzicielstwa za granicą wykorzystano teorię transnacjonalizmu. Materiał empiryczny przedstawiony w artykule opiera się na danych pozyskanych w jakościowych wywiadach narracyjnych, które przeprowadzono z kobietami mieszkającymi wraz z dziećmi w USA, Niemczech i Wielkiej Brytanii. Szczególny nacisk został położony na rolę/definicję „dobrej matki" oraz wymóg wspólnego zamieszkiwania rodziców i dzieci jako czynnik, który związany jest z ideą macierzyństwa we współczesnej zachodniej kulturze.

The Social and Educational Situation of Circular Migrants’ Children in Poland Kawecki, Ireneusz; Kwatera, Anna; Majerek, Bożena; Trusz, Sławomir This article is an attempt to fill in the missing knowledge about children called ‘Euro-orphans’ in the context of relations between the circular migration of their parents, its motives, duration, frequency and forms of contacts with children and the life and school situation of their children. Theoretical frames that identify phenomena in this area have been defined. Educational, social and emotional consequences of Euro-orphanhood for children affecting their presence and future life have been identified and described. These consequences have been analyzed in the light of processes that take place in three environments which are the most important for a child’s socialization, namely the family, school and peer group. Special emphasis has been put on the factors that mediate the relationship between a child’s temporary orphanhood and his/her achievements in various fields of life.; W artykule podjęto próbę opisu sytuacji dzieci nazywanych „eurosierotami" w kontekście zależności pomiędzy migracją cyrkulacyjną rodziców – jej motywami, czasem trwania, częstotliwością i formą kontaktów z dziećmi, a losami życiowymi i edukacyjnymi ich dzieci. W niniejszym artykule określono teoretyczne ramy identyfikujące zjawiska występujące w podjętym obszarze. Zidentyfikowano i opisano edukacyjne i społeczno-emocjonalne konsekwencje euro-sieroctwa dzieci, rzutujące na ich teraźniejszość i przyszłość. Konsekwencje te rozpatrywano w świetle procesów zachodzących w trzech zasadniczych dla socjalizacji dziecka środowiskach: rodzinie, szkole oraz grupie rówieśniczej. Wskazano czynniki, które w istotny sposób pośredniczą w relacji między stanem czasowego osierocenia dziecka a jego osiągnięciami w różnych dziedzinach życia.

Immigration and Primary Education in Ireland Kosmalska, Joanna The structure of this paper could be compared to a camera with a zoom as it proceeds from the description of general issues to individual problems. It begins with a short section that introduces the context of the study. Then the paper illuminates recent demographic shifts in Ireland and traces some major implications that the immigration has had on primary schools. Next a description of the Irish primary education system is provided to highlight key concepts of the primary school structure and operation. From there, the paper proceeds to an investigation of elements of recent legislation that has shaped the present situation of non- -national pupils in primary schools. Finally, the advantages and challenges of a multicultural classroom are presented from the teachers’ perspective by quoting their own words. The overall aim of this paper is to paint a ‘bigger picture’ of the world into which a newly-arrived, non-English speaking child is thrown. It is worth noting that Polish children are the vast majority within this group in Ireland.; Artykuł przechodzi od przedstawienia ogólnego obrazu sytuacji do prezentacji poszczególnych jej zagadnień na zasadzie działania zoomu. Otwiera go krótkie wprowadzenie nakreślające kontekst badania. W jego ramach prześledzone są zmiany demograficzne, które zaszły w Irlandii w ciągu ostatnich lat oraz wpływ fali imigracyjnej na sytuację w szkolnictwie. Następnie krótko została opisana struktura i funkcjonowanie szkół podstawowych w Irlandii. Opis ten stanowi tło do analizy istotnych aktów obowiązującego prawa, które kształtują obecną sytuację uczniów-emigrantów w szkołach podstawowych. Na koniec podjęta jest próba zaprezentowania opinii nauczycieli o korzyściach i wyzwaniach związanych z istnieniem klas zróżnicowanych etnicznie; w tym celu zostały przytoczone ich wypowiedzi z wywiadów. Artykuł ma na celu „panoramiczne zobrazowanie” świata, do którego wkracza nowoprzybyłe, nieznające języka angielskiego dziecko – warto zaznaczyć, że Polskie dzieci stanowią znaczącą część tej grupy.
