The aim of the article is to investigate basketball exchanges between United States and Soviet
Union from the perspective of sports diplomacy. The research is directed at determining its
significance in affecting political relation between the two states.
In the article, an attempt to answer three research questions was made. The first one is
whether USA–USSR basketball diplomacy served only the rapprochement between the
countries, or at the same time to use sports victories in order to prove their superiority,
combining positive and negative sports diplomacy. The other research questions are: were
the exchanges particularly in basketball appropriate concerning its diplomatic purpose,
and whether basketball diplomacy was reflecting or creating the state of Soviet–American
relations.

The purpose of this article is to present the most important facts of political biography of
Paul Kagame (b. 23 Oct. 1957), the incumbent president of Rwanda, the main architect of
the Rwandan reforms and the reconstruction of the country after the genocide of 1994. The
second aim of this article is to analyze his political experience and choices (both in domestic
and foreign policy), as well as the model of leadership he has represented. Subsequently, other
questions had to be answered, namely whether the state rebuilt by him is really democratic,
as it is claimed by the official rhetoric, and whether the new state structure would be capable
of creating a barrier to potential ethnic conflict in the future.

Realizacja interesu narodowego w strukturach Unii Europejskiej na przykładzie autonomicznych agencji regulacyjnych

Regulatory agencies are an original example of cooperation between countries, private
institutions and bodies of the European Union. They are an essential link in the development
of sectoral network administration within the European institutional structures. They
can be regarded as a kind of platform for coordinating the activities of specialized offices
of Member States in specific sectors of the internal market. Although the emphasis in the
founding regulations is put on the independence and autonomy of these bodies, they remain
under significant influence of the Commission and the national governments. This latter
phenomenon can be seen in the work of the management boards, which are the main decisionmaking
bodies of the agencies. They are a forum in which the most active representatives
of the Member States present their positions and in which there is a clash of different
national interests and preferences. Undoubtedly institutions such as regulatory agencies also
contribute to the building of the so-called EU identity, but they are still mainly coordinating
bodies in which there is a confrontation of national interests.
