The ascetism is presented: from the perspective of „healthy-minded” and pathological religiousness, against the theory of Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, in comparison with Karen Horney’s theory of neurosis, against the concept of „to be and to have” by Erich Fromm, on the plane of the axiological ethics in general and against suffering, and finally within the American version of vita contemplativa.
