Abstract

Author analyzes selected materials from Polska Kronika Filmowa (Polish Movie Chronicle) and tries to show recovery and protection of Polish cultural assets, The Battle of Grunwald by Jan Matejko and St. Mary’s Altar by Veit Stoss, after World War II. Author compares chronicle episodes with the latest research after war. The text shows difficult fate of Polish works of art during war and their fate in the first years after its end. It shows also elements of propaganda, understatements included in chronicle movies, which can only be observed in retrospect. Subject matter is interdisciplinary, but is directly connected with plunder of cultural property, which is one of the issues of cultural security.
