dc.description.abstractIn the paper the author tries to describe one of the strongly fixed in Polish language idiomatic expression 'od stóp do głów'/'from head to foot'. The first part of the paper focuses on the state of testifying the item in native lexicographical resources from dictionaries of old Polish language down to modern lexicons and sets of idiomatic expressions. For comparative purpose lexical sets of 10 other European languages were checked in respect of occurring of this idiomatic expression. A separate part of the analysis focuses on fixing the origin of the expression. The result of the study is statement of the fact that the expression 'od stóp do glów'/'front head to foot' co-creates a universal, typical for many languages set of structures in which human body seem to be a kind of microcosm.en_EN
