dc.description.abstract | The article addresses the important issue of the threat of terrorism in the age of globalisation. It shows
especially dangerous religious terrorism connected with Islamic extremism. Its character was discussed on the
example of Islamic State (ISIS). Examples of the most spectacular attacks are given, indicating that more and more
often the perpetrators use simple methods and attack the so-called “soft targets”, where many people gather. The
aim of attackers inspired by Islamic fundamentalism is to attack large concentrations of random people, who are
often not protected at all. Such terrorist acts, which are increasingly often perpetrated by fanatics acting as
“lone wolves”, are intended to prove that no one can feel safe and that an attack can take place anywhere, at any
time. Such forms of action are very difficult to predict and neutralise. It has been pointed out that a
particularly attractive target for terrorist attacks may be large office buildings, where the headquarters are
usually large global corporations, which for Islamic terrorists are a symbol of a spoiled, consumerist Western
civilisation. The article contains a summary of the research process in which the security audit tool was used to
find an answer to the main research problem formulated in the question: is it necessary and possible to take action
to ensure security in large office and service centres?
While searching for an answer to this question, it was established that there is a real threat of a terrorist
attack in office and service centres. At the same time, it was shown that the level of security against terrorist
attacks in these facilities is insufficient and requires changes. Finally, a positive answer to the main research
problem was obtained and the directions of actions that should be taken to improve security standards in large
office centres were presented. | en_EN |
