dc.description.abstract | The purpose of the study is to present the development of nuclear power in Poland and its
impact on energy security of the country. The author presents what Poland has done till now
to introduce nuclear power, what are the benefits and role of this energy source for the energy
security of the state. Next, he describes the assumptions of the document Energy policy of
Poland till 2040 to indicate the expected development of nuclear energy and shows the actual
actions undertaken to implement investments in the nuclear energy sector. Key point is to
forecast the impact of nuclear energy on future energy balance of Poland. The author presents
the development of nuclear energy and challenges related to the energy security faced by
the political decision-makers. The prognostic method, comparative method and praxeological
approach have been used in the study. The research shows that the development plans of
nuclear energy look promising, but serious financial challenges may hinder a seamless implementation.
According to the author, building of nuclear power plants would increase energy
security of Poland and every country needs to the diversify its energy sources. Since renewable
energy is still not sufficiently developed, coal mining decreases and Poland needs to meet
some climate targets, nuclear power may be considered as a quite attractive alternative. The
development of nuclear energy is beneficial for Poland’s energy security, however, while expanding
it further, Poland should not resign from using renewable and non-renewable energy
sources which it has utilized till now. | en_EN |
