Abstract

Development of the modern world, determined by the progressing globalization and informatization, the ever-more blurred role of the national states, transition towards the multicultural society, and the break-up of the previous bipolar order led to the emergence of a number of new problems and threats to the functioning of the world order. The problem is aggravated by the role of security, transferred from the national-only issues to global situations. Sciences dealing with security thus face a serious task of conceptualizing their subject matter, to oppose the criticism on the part of other, more mature social sciences.
