dc.description.abstractThe green areas of cities include mainly forests, parks and squares. However in recent years the literature on sustainable lifestyles, health and recreation has increasingly focused on the roles and functions of urban green spaces such as lawns. They have important aesthetic and health values and also provide a number of ecosystem services. It is now appreciated that green areas in cities make urban areas more attractive for tourists and visitors. Cities are places for work, recreation and relaxation. High quality green areas contribute to a more stable microclimate, increase water retention, decrease heat, and mitigate extremely cold temperatures during the winter. They are a mechanical barrier protecting against pollution, noise and artificial light. They also have an educational function. The aim of this article is to show the benefits of ecosystem services provided by unmown lawns and flower meadows in the city, based on the management of green areas in Krakow.en_EN
