dc.description.abstractThis paper is a short characteristic of landfill made in Poland. There are different uses of landfill gas regarding composition (methane content) and quantity. The use of bio gas is profitable, if the surface of landfill is bigger than 4 ha and at least 5 metre deep according to OBREM (Research and Development Centre for Town Ecology). The most efficient way of energy obtaining is cogeneration because of high efficiency. Next part of this paper is about positive effect of landfill gas obtaining thanks to elimination of main global warming effect gases like methane and carbon dioxide. There is still an economical aspect. The investment cost is about 1 million USD. The payback period oscillates from 2 to 10 years depending on quantity, quality of bio gas (heating value), management, technology applied, market value of heat and electrical energy.en
