An attempt is made to conceive the interrelation between the fragmentation of farm units and emigration on the ground of an exemplary study of these processes in the villages Piotrkowice Wielkie in the Cracow Voivodeship. It is stated that a post-war breaking up has reached no great importance for the reason of a considerable number of departures from the village which amount to about 20% of the village original population. In result of the analysis the function of emigration reducing the rate of farm units fragmentation is evident. However, the emigration does not prevent the process of farm dwarfing. In most cases those who have left their native village (to the exclusion of the West territories settlers) do not resign of their legal or customary right to participate in the division of inherited grounds, exepting cases when higher education has been acquired.en_EN
