The central problem of the present work is analysis of the influence of industrialisation on the agricultural hinterland of industrial centres in result of labour demand population affluence, and commutation. The author gives a compilation of a number of works carried out on a uniform plan in the Chair of Economic Geography. Field investigations were made in Southern Poland on the area of several score of industrial centres and their hinterland and an intense rate of transformations in postwar People’s was stated. That vigorous rythm still enhanced by considerable investments in industry, was the cause of a speedy growth of workers and peasant-workers concentrations within the range of influence of separate centres. Along with investments in industry and in communication these concentrations were the leading factors in the process of urbanisation, the crystallisation and growth of suburban zones and also the reason of the widening of urban areas, as indicated by the analysis of processes taking place on the studied areas. An account of different settlers producing groupings and of corresponding socio-demographic concentrations in the hinterland of industrial centres makes evident the complexity of the spacial pattern of suburban zones.en_EN
