The process of electrification of Cracov voivodship villages is rather belated, beginning in the 30ies of the
interwar period. In 1945 in the Cracov voivodship only 6,4% villages were electrified. In the best case the
districts of Chrzanów and Nowy Targ could boast of 25% of their villages being electrified. In the other extreme
were Proszów and Limanowa districts where there was no village electrification whatever.
In the People's Poland period electrification begins acquiring features of planned action. The charges for village
electrification begin rapidly growing. In 1959 already 59,5% of Cracov villages were electric current consumers,
and the districts of Chrzanów, Żywiec and Olkusz had reached nearly complete electrification. At the same time
least electrified still were Nowy Sącz and Limanowa districts, being electrified in ab. 40%.
The electric current consumption in Nowy Sącz district in 1959 was continually on the level of 169 kWh each forms-
tead, of which 241 kWh were used for household purposes (lighting, heating, laundry, radio etc.) and 28 kWh for
farm-work. The forms tead electrical equipment was in close dependence on the size of the farm, the kind of its
production and date of electrification.
