Abstract

Actual demographic problems in Sudan are consideres on the ground of data furnished by the first Sudanese census in 1956, Sudanese problems are an instance of conditions prevailing in African weakly developed countries. An analysis of the present structure of Sudanese pupulation as concluded from the results of the census , puts into evidence the national composition, the predomination languages, the natural displacements of the pupulation and also so far the available data permit to judge, the general migration tendencies Sudan is the only African country where the Negro and the Arab elements are present in considerable numbers. Attention is given to certain specific demographic featores: an exceedingly high birth rate (particularly in the southern provinces populated by Negroes); a high death rate, a low degree of urbanization, and also the specific geographic situation of the country an the African internal latitudinal migration track.
