Brazil belongs to these countries where the growth of population is high, a fact which has become particularly evident in the present century. Among the characteristic features of Brazil’s special structure of population is the outstanding irregularity of the population density. This is mainly due to the specific environmental conditions which, moreover, are a serious obstacle on the way towards the social and economic integration of that country. The traditional immigration and settlement areas in the eastern part of the country still continue to be the most densely populated and the most important economic regions in Brazil. The synthetic picture of Brazil’s population and their concentration has been illustrated in Fig. 6. As one can see, in 1940 and in 1950 the population in that country had been somewhat less dispersed than it w|as in 1960. Generally speaking, there always has been but small dispersion. This is corroborated by the calculated coefficients of the populations space concentration which were as folows: o. 625 in 1940, o. 620 in 1950, and o. 56 in 1960.en_EN
