The present article is concerned with the role performed with the coal mining concurrent industries in the Rybnik
Coal Basin in 1965. In the first part of the publication, the author, upon presenting his definition of "concurrent
industries", proceeds to a survey of the whole industrial potential of the Rybnik Coal Basin. The development
of the industry concentrated on this area has been presented, for the sake of comparison, as it had been in 1938 and
then as it was in 1965. The author then generally examines the location and condition of the coal mining concurrent
industries in the Rybnik Basin.
The second part has been devoted to the discussion of the spatial ties in the examined group of industries in the
sphere of supply and outlet. The existence of these ties has led the author to make an attempt at demonstrating how
dependent are the concurrent industries on the coal mining industry.
In his conclusions the author has emphasized that the concurrent industries continue to be forced till the present
day, the main reason for it being the agglomerative advantages resulting from the existing infrastructural stocking
of the area and the local markets.
To present better the discussed problems, maps have been appended to the publication, showing the extent of
employment in the Rybnik Coal Basin industry for 1938 and 1965, respectively - as well as maps illustrating the
activa and passive interconnections of the concurrent industries.
