Ignacego Myślickiego koncepcja historii filozofii

Abstract

The paper gives an account of the views of Ignacy Halpern-Myślicki concerning the origin, the aims and the methods of studying the history of philosophy. This is the first attempt to reconstruct the views of a writer who has been almost completely forgotten nowadays and who is chiefly known as a translator of Spinoza's works. Myślicki distinguishes six basic methods in studying the history of philosophy: heuristic, philosophical and critical at the same time, hermeneutic, genetic, i. e. biographical, evolutional and that of historical growth of self- conciousness. The sequence in which these methods are applied in practice is arbitrary, it "remains in the mind of a historian as a set of research instruments". The paper is preceded by a biographical note illustrating in the first place the scientific and didactic activity of I. Myślicki,as well as showing him as a writer and organizer in "Wolna Wszechnica Polska" (Polish Open University) and "Polski Związek Myśli Wolnej" (Polish Union of Free Thinking).
