The paper belongs to a series of studies concerned with the philosophy of the Polish Romanticism. It is based on the assumption that there is philosophical content to be found in the works which have been usually discussed in the terms of the belles-lettres. A particular example to support this assumption may be provided by J. Słowacki's work "Król Duch" (The Ghost King), which constitutes the subject of the study. When analysing the various aspects of Slowacki's work the authoress finds that it should be understood as an expression of a specific approach to the problem of the history of philosophy. The title hero of "Król Duch" constitutes a historical force which finds its personification in a number of historical (or quasi-historical) persons, the actual leaders of the people (rulers) who impart sense and dialectical dynamics to the evolution of social changes.en_EN
