The paper presents in a synthetical way the views of the representatives of the social Left on the essence and role of proletarian culture. These views are presented against a general background of historical situation and social life. The conceptions of proletarian culture contained statements resulting from the generalization of political and social situation. Theoretical, programme formulations of this problem were methodically alike. They were based upon the principles of historical materialism. The chief problems which were taken into consideration were those of genesis of the specific features of proletarian culture and its relations to the national and universal ones. A belief into the progress of humanity, its full emancipation, free development of culture as well as intro abilities and capacities, both cognitive and creative, of the common people was manifest in these views. At the same time an opinion according to which this culture would overcome class particularism was expressed.en_EN
