The subject of the paper consists in the interpretation of religion in the conceptions of Polish Modernism as well as the relations between religion and culture. An irrational interpretation of religious substances which were regarded as a kind of mystical experience and irrational sensation was characteristic of this current. Religion is then, on the one hand, an element of culture (religion in culture). But, on the other hand, though religion is interpreted as a phenomenon of psychical reality or irrational experience, it cannot be completely reduced to the phenomena of culture which means a complex of purposeful, rational, adaptable attitudes, substances, products and behaviour. On that head religion is thus beyond culture.en_EN
