An attempt is made to present a synthetic factor for the area relief evaluation which would involve the relative altitude, inclination, erosional dessection level and slope cutting depth. One of the most natural factors is surface extension coefficient (r), i.e. the actual surface area (s) to topographic surface area (t) ratio. Taking into account the extension coefficient (r) definition and the well-known relationship cos = t/s, we obtain cos =l/r. The paper was intended to give a simple and fairly exact method for the actual surface area calculation in order to obtain the surface extension coefficient. The procedure was based on a 1:25000 topographic map. For the computation purpose, a square graticule (the surface areas being 0,25 km^2) based on the topographical map frames was drawn. The coefficient values may be shown using a cartograph or isorithms.en_EN
