The study explores the issue of definitional changes of the word hajdamaka and its derivatives since the 17lh century until the present day. As based on an anonymous diary of the second half of the 17th century (Pamiętniki o wojnach kozackich za Chmielnickiego przez nieznanego autora), a much earlier occurrence of the lexeme in the Polish language was noted than the one provided by dictionaries and historic sources. Until now, there has been a conviction that hajdamaka appeared during the second decade of the 18th century. However, it turns out that the base form and its derivative forms had been much earlier used orally although this fact has not been proven so far by written sources.en_EN
