The article presents toponymic processes which expose the origin of compound names in the region of tarnopolskie province and in which one of the components is motivated by a personal name. Various extra-linguistic factors connected with the existing regional toponymic system are frequently their origin. The second component derives from the appellatives mały, wielki, stary, nowy, górny, dolny, etc. They were added when as a result of the growth and extension of a settlement, which had already existed, there was a demand for more specific identification in the region. The second element could have also come from the appellatives kąt, kopa, etc., which in microoikonymy could have been field names. In connection with the name motivated by an antroponym a compound was formed. From the point of view of onomastic, both elements should be considered separately in order to fully render the actual mechanism of their formation and juxtapose them with one-element names.en_EN
