The studies were designed to examine and to compare the volume of nucleuses of cells Langerhans islands in pancreas
of grass frog during period of hibernation. With this view, 5 sexual maturity males in regions of Cracov were
catched in following examining periods: the 3rd decade of October, the 3rd decade of January and the 1st decade of
March.
Using routines histological methods, shreds (5 μm each) of pancreas were obtained. These shreds were subsequently
stained using Delafield’s hematoxyline with eosine according to Heidenhains Azan method. Nucleus circumference were
measured using Palkovit’s pattern. Results were confirm statistical using Gosset’s test. During experiments were
suggested that nucleus circumferences in islands of Langerhanses cells are: in the 3rd decade of October —
145.363μm^3, in the 3rd decade of January — 137.440 μm^3, in the 1st decade of March — 194.442 μm^3. Statisticaly
substantial difference (t = 8.75) occured between the 3rd decade of January and the 1st decade of March.
Results demonstrates that islands of Langerhans in grass frog male are subjects to periods changes of activity,
which is combined with various rate of physiological processes course in different life periods of this amphibia.
