The paper refers to one of social varieties of contemporary Polish language - pupils' sociolect. The author focuses his research attention to teachers’ nicknames that are inseparable elements of children and youth's language used in informal situations at school and outside. Nicknames given by pupils to teachers and to other educational workers were gathered with a help of surveys conducted in different types of school (primary schools, secondary schools, grammar schools). The author takes their formation and emotional characteristic into account giving little less attention to structures of the nicknames. The purpose of the paper is to show similarities and differences between pupils' modal attitudes towards educators. Research material gathered at particular stages of education shows different means of valuing used by children and youth. It also proves that some criteria of valuing teachers (e.g. based on feelings, on the customs, and on morality) decidedly predominate while others (aesthetic, intellectual) are less distinct in inquired pupils’ opinions.en_EN
