The circles oflay Catholics grouped around the weekly ‘Ład’ referred, in a very general sense, to the traditions of the movement ’Znak’, Representatives of this environment criticised the basic assumptions of the so-called Catholic minimalism, they prepared their own programme and encouraged Catholics to be actively involved in the public life of the country, to co-participate and to co-operate in solving social and economic problems. Being one of the components of the political system in the 1980-ties in Poland, having parliament representation and representatives in national councils, and also actively participating in the Patriotic Movement of the National Revival, the circles attempted to form the structure and principles of the system. It was indicated, while observing a deep crisis in Poland in the 80-ties, which was both axiological and normative as concerns the regulation of the political and economic system, that its sources could be attributed to a deformation of the socialist system principles. Catholics grouped around ‘Lad’ voiced their support for the reform of the method and style of government without changing the system principles. They intended to play the role of a mediator between political authorities and the Church, as well as between the authorities and the society. They also tried to perform the function of a representative of the Catholic Church in the area of politics.en_EN
