The psychological test scores of a group 66 asthmatic children in the 7-15 year old range were compared with those of a matched nonasthmatic group with no history of possible brain disorder. The memory performance was characterized with the aid of Benton’s Visual Memory Test, WISC Digit Scan and 15 Rey’s Words Test. Statistical and clinical evaluation of each subject’s test scores indicated that asthma and connected with in the circumstances disturb predominantly a short-term memory (remembering of digits) and an intentional learning (remembering of words in 5 succeeding tests). The significant differences (p.i. 0,01) on WISC Digit Span and 15 Roy’s Words Test performance were found only between older groups (V-VIII classes) asthmatic and nonasthmatic children. The regresive changes were not stated in visual memory performance. The results of 15 Rey’s Words Test and Benton’s Test indicated that the asthmatic children have difficulties in concentrating and mobilizing themselves to intellectual effort.en_EN
