In the article, we interpret synonyms as units of language and text. Distinctive synonymy means the difference between words captured in a synonymous sequence; cognitive synonyms, of the type carriage, cart, coach, close thematic synonyms, of the type wandering and roving, and stylistically marked synonyms, of the type vista and road. In “Historya Chrześcijańska Xiężny Eufraty” (The Christian History of Countess Eufrata) by Elżbieta Drużbacka it is: vocabulary motivated toponimically, of the type Eufrat and Eufrata, hypero- and hyponyms, similar to cognitive synonyms, of the type ship, boat, vessel, craft, and their pragmatic and stylistic evaluation for arche, nave. Thus, a synonym includes formally heterogeneous lexemes which have approximate cognitive value, while the differences between them concern what comes to the foreground in them (cognitive synonyms), what is the gradation of the presented contents (thematic gradual symptoms), and in what stylistic register they are used (pragmatic synonyms).en_EN
