The article analyses texts utilizing various materials, image and word, that were created by deaf students of a
special gymnasium. The article shows the skills of deaf children in using verbal language (secondary notation) and
iconic language. It discusses the meaning of the words journey and to travel appearing in the students’ accounts,
as well as the contexts of their use. It also draws attention to the role of language in the formation of
personality of deaf people, and the development of their knowledge of the world.
