Mineral waters are the main natural resource in Swoszowice region. They are different according to chemical
composition and origin. Type one of them is made of precipitation waters which mineralize themselves in a shallow
hydrochemical zone and type two comes from the deeper hydrochemic zone. Mixed mineral waters are very common in
this region.
Chloric-bicarbonate-sodic, iodidic waters have not been used in Swoszowice region for therapeutic purposes so it
would be important to examine this level of mineral waters to estimate their hydrogeological parameters and
especially their productivity.
Differentiation of chemical composition of waters in the Miocene deposits is a very characteristic feature.
Variability of mineralization of Miocene waters does not often depends on deepness of their existence, and
inversion of mineralization is also observed.
Sulphate-biocarbonate-sulphidic waters of Swoszowice region are the result of surface changes and chloric-bio-
carbonate-sodic, iodidic waters appear in places where geological structure makes possibilities for deep water
circulation.
Sulphate-biocarbonate-sulphidic waters infiltrate the Tertiary deposits. Their mineralization takes place during
the contact with chemical deposits and then they are becoming sulphuric waters and during the reduction of
sulphates they become also sulphidic waters.
Sulphuric-biocarbonate-sulphidic waters make the first, shallow level of underground waters in this region. This
type of waters is in both springs of mineral waters. They are: sulphuric-biocarbonate-calcic-magnesian, sulphidic
waters.
Chloric-biocarbonate-sodic, iodidic waters point out weak contact with shallow underground or infiltrative waters.
The most important feature of Swoszowice mineral waters is great amount of sulphuretted hydrogen (more than 70
mg/l) with the increasing tendency in the "Główny" spa.
Presenting the complicated problems of sulphur-sulphide mineral waters origin it should be stated that each
existence should be discussed separately in dependence on geological structure and hydrochemical conditions.
