The automotive industry shows an interest in magnesium alloys due to the necessity to reduce weight of car components, and thereby to improve fuel economy and reduce $CO_2$ emission. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of current and future applications of magnesium alloys in automotive industry. The paper presents actual Mg alloy components produced mainly by various casting processes and indicates the need to increase wrought magnesium components; therefore the current research work is focused on the development of advanced Mg alloys and technologies to produce Mg sheets and extrusions for body and chassis applications.en_EN
