dc.description.abstract | The sintering of the alumina porous preforms for the reinforcing of the composite materials
is discussed in this paper. Among all the techniques available for processing of metal
matrix composites, infiltration of molten metals into porous ceramic performs is the only technique
suitable for the fabricating high volume fraction of ceramics in the composite with metals
(>50%). The performs were produced by mixing the alumina with various organic binders,
followed by forming, drying and firing. The organic binder is decomposed and vaporized at
relatively low temperatures and forms small and homogenous pores. | en_EN |
