The year 2000 is the year of a double jubilee of Prof. Dr. Zenon Moszner: the 70th anniversary of his birthday and the 50th year of his work at the Pedagogical University of Kraków. The present special volume of the Rocznik Naukowo-Dydaktyczny WSP w Krakowie is a tribute to the celebration of the Jubilee. Born in Chorzów on May 16, 1930, Zenon Moszner was appointed assistant at the Pedagogical University of Kraków on May 15, 1950 and has been working 50 years at the same University, since 1978 as full professor. He was promoted Master of Mathematics in 1951, Ph.D. in 1957 and Habilitated Doctor in 1963, all the scientific degrees being granted by the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University of Kraków. He obtained the scientific titles of professor of mathematical sciences: extraordinary professor in 1969 and ordinary professor in 1978. At his University, bearing the name Akademia Pedagogiczna since October 1, 1999, Prof. Moszner was, among others, the Dean of the Mathematics- Physics-Technics Faculty (1965-68) and the Director of the Institute of Mathematics (1975-81 and 1984-87). From 1971 to 1975 and in the difficult period 1981-83 he was the Rector Magnificus of the University. During the celebration of the 50th anniversary of its establishment in 1996 the University has conferred upon Him the title of Doctor Honoris Causa. A student of Professor Stanisław Gołąb, Professor Zenon Moszner has published over 150 scientific papers. The majority of them was at the beginning devoted to the theory of geometric objects and then to that of functional equations, in particular, of the translation equation and its applications. He is also the author of about 50 articles dealing with popular science or didactics. He is the member of the Japanese scientific society Tensor and of the Polish Mathematical Society as well as of the editorial boards of the journals Aequationes Mathematicae and Dydaktyka Matematyki. Thânks to his scientifics results, presented systematically at numerous professional meetings, mostly abroad, he is an internationally well-known and respected specialist in his field. Professor Maurice Fréchet in a written opinion ranked Prof. Moszner among distinguished contemporary Polish mathematicians. As Professor Zofia Krygowska in didactics, Prof. Moszner has inspired, organized and directed a scientific reasearch in mathematics, and they both thereby formed a scientific profile of the Institute of Mathematics of the Pedagogical University of Kraków. He is the founder of the scientific school in the theory of the translation equation and its applications to such fields as dynamical systems, differential equations, the theory of: groups representation, iteration of functions, geometric objects, etc. Professor Zenon Moszner is a mathematician of an acknowledged scientific position in Poland and abroad, a co-creator of the world-known Polish scientific school of functional equations. The anniversary greetings and wishes expressed by Professor’s co-workers, colleagues and students in headings of their articles published in the present and the next volume of the Prace Matematyczne are joined in by the whole staff of the Institute of Mathematics of the Pedagogical University of Kraków.en_EN
