This paper is organised as follows. After a description of the basic terms such as global
education and development education, it goes on to provide an overview of most important aspects of support received by Poland in the 1990s. Next, the article describes some categories of assistance covered nowadays by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. In addition current concepts of implementing global education and education for sustainable development in Polish educational policy are presented. Finally, a summary of Polish educational experience connected with dichotomous status - of being a beneficiary and of being a donor - is followed by some conclusions.
