The article presents the situation in the Russian aesthetics in the beginning of the 19th
century.
One of the most talented young theoreticians of the time was Peter Georgievsky. His
considerations devoted to aesthetics began with attempts to define the subject and to
collect historical information on the development of various aesthetic concepts. His critical-
-theoretical works also discuss the important question of the aesthetic object, and prove the
multi-aspectual nature of his interest in beauty. In many of his works, Georgievsky quotes the
West-European philosophers, especially Kant, Baumgarten and Schopenhauer. He frequently
argues openly with their theses, explicitly criticizing the premises of the theory of beauty and
the question of aesthetic taste. However, in several cases the Russian theoretician contradicts
himself, and conforms to the aesthetic thought widely propagated at the time.
