Abstract

The anthropological and cognitive-linguistic image of E. Drużbacka’s text presented in this paper includes cognitive interpretation, concerning 1. temporal space, 2. locative space, 3. domain space and 4. hypothetical space. Each of these has an anthropological (cultural) and cognitive (linguistic) orientation. Modelling of mental spaces refers to the domain of religion and the lexeme repentance. The examples of religious texts by Drużbacka used in the article, compared to the rhetoric of P. Skarga’s “Lives of the saints”, are forms and genres of expression used in religious communication (the Bible, sermons, religious songs). The analysis (theological and linguistic) focuses on the lexeme repentance, semantically correlated with the lexeme sin. The anthropological (cultural) and cognitive (linguistic) features retrieved from Drużbacka’s religious texts are a. the appearance of a repenting woman b. the repenter’s prayer, Sol Salutis, with her head to the East, c. the metaphor of repentance prayer as an armour, d. rendering the expression “the refuge of sinners” in the domain of literary culture, e. modelling of the semantics of repentance by means of semantic primitives proposed by A. Wierzbicka, especially: when/if...then, as a model of grammar of human cognition, f. identifying the anthropological-belief aspect, derived from Drużbacka’s belief-statements (John Lyons’s belief-sentences).
