The features which a good teacher-educator should have and which allow him/ her to
have any educational influence over pupils have been the matter of consideration for many
years. For a long time scholars have tried to define the characteristics of a good teacher. It
has turned out that the work of a special needs teacher does not differ much from the work of
a teacher in a regular school. He/ she should have the same range of characteristics as
a teacher who works with a child following a regular pattern of development. However, those
teachers who work with deaf or hearing-impaired children should be additionally equipped
with the so called auditory education. That is why, when describing the features of a teacher
for deaf and hearing-impaired children, one should define the functions of a teacher as such,
as well as the specific functions of a special needs teacher.
