This article is a review of the research concerning teachers and their pupils in selected
secondary schools throughout Cracow in 2007–2008. The research data show that the
teachers assessed the situation of school safety far more negatively than their pupils,
concerning student safety. Analyzing the research, it is easy to recognize many irregularities
in schools everyday life.
An alarming issue, observed in the research, is the opinion of many respondents (teachers)
who believe that the only way to improve safety in schools is by employing private security
firms and by installing monitoring systems.
Another problem is the parents’ lack of understanding or concern about the negative
behaviour of students.
The research data concerning school security systems is beneficial for those responsible for
the safety of students, namely, the school director, teachers and other academic counsellors.
