Abstract

Prince Józef Poniatowski is present in multiple dimensions in the Polish- speaking part of the Internet. Information available about him are connected with the historic heritage, literary and social context, as well as diversified hobby-related subjects. The iconography utilizing the reproductions of the most famous portraits and scenes with this national hero is especially rich. As early as the 19th century, such presentations shaped the memory of the general who had died tragically; they affected the development of his patriotic legend. The anniversary of the birth and death of the commander of the Army of the Duchy of Warsaw commemorated in 2013 had an impact on the character of the Web: multiple commemorative texts and even a Facebook page have been created. What draws attention is the diversity of websites bearing witness to the multifaceted interest in the 19th-century national hero. Thanks to the polyphony, adducing to a number of anecdotes and relatively little known details, as well as using various forms of communication, which are characteristic for the cyberspace, the image of this figure is still vivid and intriguing.
