Prince Józef Poniatowski is a personage whose achievements can be set
as a model of service to the motherland, sacrifice and faithfulness. Thanks
to his courage and steadfastness of principles, while fighting for the prosperity
of Poland, he deserved for a place in the pantheon of Polish national
heroes. He did not enter the agreements with Tsarina Catherine and went
to Vien. He took part in the Kościuszko Uprising. At first he approached
Napoleon warily, but once convinced, he stood by him despite failures, up
until the defeat in the battle under Leipzig. He is the patron of multiple
schools, streets and squares; he is remembered in many monuments and
commemorative plates.
