This is a draft on crossing the boundaries between economic centres on the Polish
and Slovak part of the Carpathians. Here I describe the nature of the relationship
between the citizens of the Polish and Slovak foothill cities. This includes different
aspects of the neighbourhood. The Carpathian border did not divide, but rather
connected the inhabitants of the border regions. Until the end of the 18th century it
was the friendliest of the Polish borders. In the communication space I describe the
mountain passes and roads leading through them as the most important. I write
about castles and the safety on the trade routes, attended by merchants and other
travellers. I also describe different kinds and means of transportation, both land
and river, and the different conditions depending on the season. On the difficult
roads, the specialised carriers were of great help – carters, and on rivers – rafters.
The national government played a significant role in intensifying the trade on the
described area.
