The development of the arms industry in Warsaw was influenced by many factors.
In the times of the independence fights the military authorities started the
arms production, using the repair shops left by the occupants. Within the city
there were few specialists with the basic knowledge of the industrial production.
In the years 1919–1926, the foundations of the arms industry were created, mainly
of the artillery, rifles, ammunition and blades. In the following period, covering
the years 1926–1935, the factories working for the army were mostly commercialised.
The effect of this was the creation of the national air and automotive defence
industry. In the final period of 1936–1939, the arms industry lost its dynamics of
development in favour of the developing factories in the region of the Central
Industrial District. The development of the arms industry in Warsaw was very
influential – it generated over 23,000 workplaces, but also directly influenced the
development of the residential architecture, city transport, as well as education
and science.
