„Żeglarz po morzu ciemności”. Nad biografią Stefana Grabińskiego (stan obecny i perspektywy badań)

Abstract

The article studies the biography of Stefan Grabiński (1887–1936) – an acclaimed interwar writer of fantasy prose – by presenting and organising the existing works on said topic, as well as it calls for the need for further research. The issues were organised into four parts devoted to, as follows: 1) biographies written by scholars and memoirs written by his contemporaries, in which his personality and works were reflected, as well as yet unpublished material (found in Polish and Ukrainian repositories); 2) Grabiński’s statements of autobiographical and self-reference nature (including personal statements, interviews published in the pre-war literary press); 3) elements of autobiographical and self-reference discourse in his fiction prose and related research issues (e.g. syllepsis, surfiction, self-creation); 4) final, dramatic period of the writer’s life, to which a poignant testimony are never published private letters of the years 1926–1935.
