Znaczenie wybranych pojęć filozoficzno-politycznych w myśli historiozoficznej św. Augustyna na podstawie "De civitate Dei"

Abstract

Praca jest syntezą problematyki virtus u św. Augustyna. Część I, "Virtus Roma - Virtus Christiana”, ukazuje stosunek św. Augustyna do virtus Romana i przedstawia ideał postawy obywatelskiej chrześcijanina - virtus vera. Część II, "Virtus w koncepcji moralnej św. Augustyna", omawia pojęcie virtus w aspekcie filozoficznym (etyka). Część III, "Civitas peregrina" wykazuje źródła koncepcji "civitas Dei" i "civitas terrena". Problematyce najwyższego dobra i największego zła poświęcona jest praca IV. Przedstawia chrześcijańską i pogańską koncepcję szczęścia (beati tudo), pokoju (pax) i sprawiedliwości (iustitia). Część V, definiuje terminy mądrość, wiedza, filozofia, filozof. Praca stanowi kontynuację badań w zakresie łacińskich pojęć socjalno-politycznych i filozoficznych.

In De civitate Dei Augustine did not create a new terminology. He used Roman political Words and ideas which he shaped to his needs injecting a new Christian sense when necessary. One such word which assumed an important role in his work, is virtus. The dissertation has been aimed as a synthesis of the different problems involved in the concept of virtus. St. Augustine gave virtus a new Christians sense, made changes in the intention, the motivation and the goal of virtus. Augustine examined also different philosophic views of the supreme good. For the Christians a supreme good is eternal life and peace. To live correctly a man needs wisdom - thus in the last part of the dissertation the problem of wisdom is discussed. The aim of the work was to investigate how certain Roman ideas changed under the influence of Christian religion.
